Fencing and balustrades in Haarlem
Haarlem has a historic centre, large 1930s neighbourhoods and plenty of newer housing. We make the railings, balustrades and fences for all of them to measure, and fit them with our own team.

From the Spaarne to Schalkwijk
The old centre around the Grote Markt and along the Spaarne is full of narrow houses, often split into a ground-floor and an upstairs flat. On the street side, a Juliet balcony (Frans balkon in Dutch: a railing fixed in front of French doors or a tall window, with no balcony floor) is one of our most common jobs. At the back you tend to find small flat roofs and roof terraces that need a proper balustrade.
Outside the centre, neighbourhoods such as the Leidsevaartbuurt and parts of Haarlem-Noord and Zuid have many 1920s and 1930s homes with bay windows and front gardens. Low decorative steel fencing with a matching gate fits that style well. In Schalkwijk and in newer developments the requests are mostly balcony railings for flats and garden boundaries for family homes.

A short drive from our Amsterdam routes
Haarlem is about fifteen minutes from Amsterdam West, and we work in Amsterdam every day. Adding a Haarlem address to the schedule is easy. The city centre also feels familiar: narrow streets, limited room to unload and steep staircases are things our drivers and fitters deal with all the time.
Hekwerk Amsterdam is part of Hekwerkwebshop.nl, founded in early 2013. We build everything ourselves in two workshops in Urk and one in Emmeloord, with only galvanising and powder coating handled by partners.
Options that suit Haarlem homes
- Juliet balconies in steel with spindles, or with glass for a clearer view.
- Balustrades for roof terraces and flat roofs, in spindle models A01 to A07 or a minimal F model.
- Decorative fencing and gates for front gardens.
- Replacement balcony railings for apartment blocks, usually agreed through the VvE (homeowners’ association).
All steel is galvanised and/or powder coated in the RAL colour of your choice, and you always receive the production drawing. If your property is listed or within the protected cityscape, check with the municipality of Haarlem before ordering. We do not advise on permits.
Delivery, fitting and timing
Delivery is free, with no minimum order, and always by our own drivers. In the centre we agree a time and place to unload in advance. You can install the work yourself or let us do it, in which case we come to measure up first. Expect 6 to 8 weeks from approval to installation, or 8 to 10 weeks between July and September.

Frequently asked questions
Can you fit a Juliet balcony to a narrow house in the centre?
Yes. Each one is made to the size of your window or door frame, and we measure up ourselves when we install.
Is unloading in the old town a problem?
Usually not. We arrange a time and place beforehand, so let us know in your request if access on your street is tight.
Can a front garden fence be lower than one metre?
Yes. Decorative fencing and gates can be any height you like. The 100 cm minimum only applies to balustrades that protect a drop.
