Custom bike shelters in Amsterdam
Amsterdam runs on bicycles, and most households own more than one. A steel bike shelter made to measure gives them a dry, permanent home in your garden, in your building’s shared courtyard or outside your office. We build it in our own workshops and install it ourselves.

Covered bike storage that fits the city
Bikes in the hallway, chained to the facade or locked to a bridge railing: in Amsterdam a proper place to park is worth a lot. A covered bike shelter keeps bikes dry, tidies up a garden or courtyard and gives residents, staff or visitors a fixed spot to park. Cargo bikes, e-bikes and children’s bikes all fit, as long as the design allows for them.
Our shelters are made from steel, entirely in our own workshops in Urk and Emmeloord. That means no fixed catalogue sizes: length, depth and height are matched to the space you have and the number of bikes it needs to hold. It is a product we enjoy making and one we want to build a lot more of in and around Amsterdam.

Gardens, shared courtyards and businesses
Private gardens in Oost, Watergraafsmeer or the 1930s streets of Zuid tend to be long and narrow. A shelter against the back fence or rear wall uses little space and leaves the rest of the garden free.
Shared courtyards in the closed housing blocks of West, Oud-West and De Pijp, or in new developments on IJburg and at the Zuidas, often hold dozens of bikes parked every which way. A communal covered shelter brings order. For a VvE (homeowners’ association) a clear drawing and quote to put on the agenda makes the decision easier. See our article on working with a VvE.
Businesses such as offices, schools, practices and shops want a neat place for staff and visitors to park, and a shelter can be coated in the company colour.

Design: steel frame, roof and layout
The basis is a steel frame with a roof. Together we decide on the layout: how many bikes, whether a cargo bike needs to fit, and whether the sides are open or partly closed. A closed back or side wall keeps out rain and wind, while an open front makes it easy to ride in and out.
A shelter can be combined with other work, such as a gate closing off the courtyard or garden fencing in the same colour. Every project comes with a production drawing that you receive as well.
Finish and colour
The steel is galvanised and then powder coated in any RAL colour, so the frame stays in good shape even with bikes bumping into it every day. Anthracite and black are the understated choice, and grachtengroen (the canal green our coating partner offers as its own colour) suits historic streets and green window frames.

From the street to the courtyard
Many Amsterdam courtyards can only be reached through a gate, a narrow passage or even the stairwell. We deliver with our own drivers and install with our own fitters, and we are in the city every day. The shelter comes in parts that fit through the passage and is assembled on site. How it is anchored (on existing paving, on base plates or on its own foundation) is decided when we measure. Delivery only is also possible, free with no minimum order.
For a shelter in a visible location or on shared ground, check with the City of Amsterdam beforehand whether anything needs arranging. We do not advise on permits. We also work outside the city, for example in Amstelveen.
Price and requesting a quote
We do not publish starting prices. The cost depends on size, number of bikes, open or closed sides, the roof, colour, foundation or fixing, access and whether we install. Send rough measurements, the number and type of bikes and a few photos for a free, no-obligation indicative quote. If we install, we come to measure and send a final quote with drawing. We aim to reply within one or two working days. Lead time is 6 to 8 weeks, or 8 to 10 weeks from July to September.

Frequently asked questions
Will a cargo bike fit?
Yes, if we plan for it. Tell us how many bikes and which types, and we size the shelter accordingly.
Can you build a shelter for our VvE?
Yes. You get an indicative quote first and then a drawing you can discuss at the owners’ meeting.
Our courtyard is only reachable through a narrow passage. Is that a problem?
No. We make the shelter in parts that fit through and assemble it on site.
Do I need a permit?
We do not advise on permits. It is wise to check with the City of Amsterdam first.
Tell us what you have in mind
Send a few photos and rough measurements. You will have an indication within one or two working days, free of charge.
