About Hekwerk Amsterdam

Who we are

Hekwerk Amsterdam is an initiative of Hekwerkwebshop.nl, a Dutch company founded in early 2013. We make balustrades, balcony railings, fencing, gates and handrails to measure for customers across the Netherlands. Amsterdam is one of the cities where we work most, and our team is there every day. That is why the city has its own website.

Built in our own workshops

We run three workshops of our own: two in Urk and one in Emmeloord. Cutting, drilling and welding all happen in house. Only the galvanising and powder coating go to a specialist coating partner.

Making everything ourselves means we can genuinely work to measure. A balcony that is slightly out of square, an awkward stairwell or a balustrade that has to wrap around a column is something we solve on the drawing board. Every job gets a production drawing, and you receive a copy, so you know exactly what is being made before any steel is cut.

Our own drivers and installers

A four-metre balustrade or a glass panel is not something you send by courier. We deliver with our own vans and drivers, free of charge and with no minimum order. If you want us to install, our own fitters do the job rather than subcontractors.

In Amsterdam that means people who know how to unload in a narrow street, how to get a section up a steep Dutch staircase and when it makes more sense to hoist it over the balcony.

How we work

Start with an enquiry, ideally with photos and rough measurements. Within 1-2 working days you get a free indicative quote. If that works for you and we are installing, we come to measure up and send a final quote with a drawing. Lead time is 6-8 weeks from approval, or 8-10 weeks from July to September.

You can pay the full amount upfront by invoice, or 70% upfront and 30% after installation. Delivery only is fine too; many customers fit their own. Have a look at our balustrades and glass balustrades, or request a quote.

What we do not do

We do not work with timber. Our own production is steel, and we buy in aluminium for balcony railings and roof terraces. We also do not make balustrades lower than 100 cm, or lower than 120 cm where the drop is 13 metres or more, even on request.

We do not advise on permits either. Many Amsterdam buildings are listed or sit within a protected conservation area, so check with the municipality before you place an order. See our service area for where we work.
