A fortified town on the Vecht
The historic centre sits inside the old fortifications, with the Vecht running straight through it and canals such as the Herengracht and Achtergracht. Houses are often narrow and old, with a pavement along the water and very little space in front. People living here usually want something understated that lasts.
- A Juliet balcony (a railing fixed in front of French doors, known in Dutch as a Frans balkon), in steel or with glass.
- Decorative railings for a stoop or a narrow front garden by the canal.

Beyond the old town
Outside the centre are residential areas from recent decades and newer developments by the water, where we mostly supply balcony railings, glass balustrades and garden fencing. Near water the finish matters, so all our steel is galvanised and/or powder coated. Besides every RAL colour, our coating partner offers grachtengroen (canal green), the dark green you see all over Amsterdam, which also suits the older facades of Weesp.
Close to our Amsterdam work
Weesp sits between Amsterdam Oost, Diemen and the Gooi area, and we are in Amsterdam every working day. Hekwerk Amsterdam is part of Hekwerkwebshop.nl, founded in early 2013. Everything is built in our own workshops in Urk and Emmeloord, with only galvanising and powder coating outsourced.
Narrow streets are nothing new to us. We agree unloading in advance and bring long sections up the stairwell or from outside, depending on the building.

- After approval, allow 6 to 8 weeks to installation, or 8 to 10 weeks from July to September.

Weesp has been part of the municipality of Amsterdam since 2022, so questions about permits and listed buildings go to Amsterdam. We do not advise on permits ourselves.
Can a canal-side railing be done in canal green?
Yes. Our coating partner has grachtengroen as its own colour, alongside every RAL colour.
Can I have a glass Juliet balcony on an old house?
Yes, Juliet balconies come in steel or with glass. When we measure up we check how the frame and brickwork allow it to be fixed.
