Amstelveen borders Buitenveldert and the Zuidas, which is where a lot of our Amsterdam work happens. That makes Amstelveen an easy stop for us. Our drivers and installers pass through regularly, so fitting in a survey or an installation day is rarely a problem.

Hekwerk Amsterdam is run by Hekwerkwebshop.nl, a business that has been going since early 2013. We fabricate every fence and railing ourselves, from start to finish, in two workshops in Urk and one in Emmeloord. Galvanising and powder coating are done by specialist partners. Delivery and installation are done by our own people, never a parcel service.

What Amstelveen homes tend to need

Many international residents live in Amstelveen, often in flats around the Stadshart or in family homes in neighbourhoods such as Westwijk, Bankras and Kostverloren. The requests follow the housing.

• Apartments: replacing a dated balcony railing, or fitting a glass balustrade so you keep the view from your balcony or terrace.
• Terraced and semi-detached houses: a tidy steel boundary fence, a side gate next to the shed, or a fence along the water at the bottom of the garden.
• Detached houses and villas: ornamental steel fencing with a driveway gate at the front.

If you own a flat, your building will usually have a VvE (the Dutch homeowners’ association). It is worth checking with them before changing anything on the facade. For listed buildings or protected areas, ask the municipality what is allowed. We do not give planning advice.

Products that suit Amstelveen

For flats, a glass balustrade is the most common question. Model G02 uses brushed stainless steel with glass clamps, G10 has slim steel posts. If you prefer an all-steel look, our made-to-measure balcony railings in the A01 to A07 range (vertical balusters) are a solid choice.

For houses with a front garden or driveway we usually suggest ornamental steel fencing combined with one of our swing or sliding gates. Everything is steel, galvanised and powder coated in any RAL colour.

Our balustrades are always at least 100 cm high, or 120 cm where the drop is 13 metres or more. We do not make them lower.

Delivery and installation

Most streets in Amstelveen have room to park and unload, which keeps installation days efficient. For upper-floor flats we agree beforehand whether materials go up in the lift, via the stairwell or over the balcony. Delivery is free with no minimum order, and you can choose delivery only if you would rather fit it yourself. If we install, we come to measure up first. Lead time is usually 6 to 8 weeks, or 8 to 10 weeks from July to September. You always receive the production drawing.
